Okay so now we all know. The big announcement at Roger’s 22nd anniversary show yesterday: Roger is adding one hour to his week day broadcast. Beginning today we are on from 3p - 7p. An extra hour to get folks home safely and well informed and perhaps with an upset stomach given the news available each day.
There has been demand and we’ve been missing some audience ending the show at 6pm. Our drive time continues until at least 7pm (so much for lazy San Diegans) so we fill a gap that has existed for too long.
Also today, in that new 6pm hour Roger will ask listeners for the "secret" word that was announced several times yesterday. A caller (first, sixth?) who calls in and recites that word on today’s show in the 6-7 hour wins the 600 bucks. Pretty good way to start the new hour.
Add the extra hour to the Saturday show and it appears that all we need now is to find a way to do a Sunday show and we’ll have all our bases covered. Huh?
Tune in today and see how we do in that extra hour okay?
MUTTERINGS
**Some guy named Heath Ledger died. Took a while to learn that he’s famous(?) cause he was in the gay cowboy movie Brokt Back Mountain. Darn, I missed that film so I had no clue who he is (or was). But boy is he getting way famous now. Wall to wall cable coverage on the guy. Never wish anyone to be dead, but hello. He was an actor. I guess we’ll hear about him for weeks to come and if foul play was involved, yikes, it could be years. Thank goodness for C-Span. That network won’t cover unless he was taking steroids and then we’ll have congressional hearings.
**The state of Rhode Island (like CA state) has budget problems. They are not down 14 billion - only 151 million, but for a small state that is a significant sum. The GOP governor there Donald L. Carcieri has proposed cuts and revenue adjustments to make the difference.
Among his plans is to force state workers to take six days of leave without pay. He’d also remove children of illegal aliens from state health care rolls and cut back on welfare spending. You get the part about illegals removed from health care? The legislature there is controlled by democrats so we’ll have to see what happens but the plan is refreshing. Arnold would never dare. Maria wouldn’t let him cut illegal kids.
**It really is time to disband Nato. Our combat ops in Afghanistan are heralded as a Nato effort. Ain’t happening. Nato countries, the few that have consented to be involved, have mostly sent a handful of troops with restrictions that they mostly be in safe havens and way shy of gunfire and bomb threats. So they are in country on paper, but mostly worthless as you know what on a boar hog.
Nato had a day back in the cold war. That day is over. So we’re sending in the Marines to get a lid on renewed offensives in Afghanistan. This should get it done. Nato folks get out!!
**Union Tribune reports this morning that foreclosures in the county were up 353% in 2007. That’s a pretty good sized percentage. Dan McAllister at the County Tax Collector’s Office tells that late tax payment notices are up 20% in recent days. He’s planning another tax sale shortly.
It really is a good time to re-fi or to buy but I’m not sure I’d buy and rent the property. But if you are a business savvy person the time is right. We’re looking at re-fi. The rates are way down. We’ve got a good one but the current numbers are even better. Not sure if we should hold our hand or ask for a couple of new cards.
I am sorry about the foreclosed folks.

**In the back office we refer to it as beating a dead horse. That would be when a topic keeps coming up on the broadcast. But it’s not a dead horse if the info is new and adds to a growing file of data rather than duplicates (this is all inside professional talk show jargon?).
The horse in question here is an escalation of violence and tragedy in our county and environs involving illegals. The murder of a Border Patrol Agent on Saturday over by El Centro. Then yesterday danger on our hiways as a smuggler van is chased in south county, rolling over and hurting six folks badly and locking up our hiways for hours and hours.
Because we are not securing our borders, killers are crossing. The killers involved in the Saturday murder were driving two vehicles, both stolen in the USA, taken back across the border to load up with drugs and then driven back across when they were spotted by BP. Use your fingers. Cross once to steal the vehicles, go south unfettered in a stolen vehicle. Cross back again with a load of drugs. Is this like a drug freeway?
