The Obama administration has declared the war on terror over and now wants patriotic Americans to focus on the equally evil "Republican war on women."
Meanwhile, Obama's war on oil and gas producers, war on the Second Amendment, war on successful people, war on Internet freedom, war on the Supreme Court, war on the Catholic Church, etc. continues to "utterly transform America," as the president promised in the 2008 campaign.
Occasionally, Obama has to retreat in one of his many wars on traditional America.
Last week, he retreated from the latest battle in the war on the family farm.
Last year, the Transportation Department had to retreat on a proposed regulation which would have required a state driver's license to operate farm machinery on a farm.
For what's left of the American family farm, the farmer's kids operating that machinery is an essential part of the operation.
This year, at the urging of La Raza and Human Rights Watch, the Department of Labor proposed to extend child labor laws to protect underage illegal farm workers.
TV ads were produced in Spanish to advertise the new "rights" to immigrant communities. Obama's re-election depends on illegal immigrant voters in swing states like Nevada and Arizona (hence the war on voter photo I.D.).
But the proposed regulation overreached to include kids doing chores on the family farm. A political backlash of tsunami proportions threatened Obama's re-election chances in a dozen family-farm heavy states like Iowa and Virginia.
The proposed regulation was "withdrawn" last week.
In its zeal, Obama's agenda often overreaches. If there is no crisis to justify advancing the agenda, make a crisis happen.
Obama's "Fast and Furious" gun-walking program armed the Mexican drug cartels to advance the agenda of gun control in the U.S. It might have worked too, until those guns were used by cartel hit men to kill federal agents.
This scandal was only made worse by the stonewalling and cover-up that has followed. Look for Rep. Darrell Issa's committee to find Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his leadership in this cover-up.
The war on the Second Amendment continues with near daily planted "news" stories demanding new restrictions on American gun owners because the Mexican cartels have guns.
Enforcing existing background check laws would have prevented the cartel straw-buyers from purchasing the guns in the first place.
Obamacare was one giant overreach that might be struck down by the Supreme Court.
In the meantime, Obamacare's regulations require that "health care" coverage must include the abortion inducing "Plan B" pill. This has the (previously Obama supporting) Catholic Church planning civil disobedience.
The Church, which operates hundreds of universities and hospitals, was not won over by Obama's exemption for employees of "houses of worship."
The tactic of mollifying opposition by limited exemptions to sweeping new rules didn't work in the war on family farms, either.
The Labor Department had reluctantly agreed to include a family-farm exception to the new farm worker child labor rules, but then limited that to farms owned by parents of the children working there.
In the real world, country kids work on their grandparents', uncles' and aunts' and cousins' farms, too.
If you've been to the grocery store, you know food prices are on the rise and/or the amount of food in the can or package is getting smaller.
Any regulation that would make it more difficult or expensive to grow, harvest, distribute and sell food means even higher prices at the store.
When I was five years old, my jobs included feeding watermelon rinds to the horses during the summer, making sure the cow had hay every day and getting the eggs every day from the henhouse. Any idea how big chickens look to a five year old?
I learned what work and responsibility meant by doing those chores.
The proposed child labor rule also went after Future Farmers of America, or FFA, and the 4-H clubs by setting a new minimum age to come into contact with farm animals.
If you don't know this already, the finest, most healthy meat available in the U.S. is from the animals raised and sold by FFA and 4-H kids at your local county fair.
There's an evil stew brewing here.
Start with one part reckless presidential re-election campaign. Add one part top-down government central planning. Mix in one part bureaucratic overreach. Spice with shredded Constitution. Bring to boil with class warfare and racial division.
A bitter brew indeed. As Jimmy Kimmel said at the White House Correspondents' dinner over the weekend, "There's a term for President Obama. But not two terms."
