Obama to push Amnesty in SOTU

Mr. Obama is expected to lay out his plan in the coming weeks, perhaps
in his State of the Union address early next month, administration
officials said. The White House will argue that its solution for
illegal immigrants is not an amnesty, as many critics insist, because
it would include fines, the payment of back taxes and other hurdles
for illegal immigrants who would obtain legal status, the officials
said.

Gallup tries to ‘gin up' support for gun laws, almost 40% support new ones?

In the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., school shootings, and as Vice
President Joe Biden leads a federal task force that will recommend
ways to curb gun violence in the U.S., 38% of Americans are
dissatisfied with the nation's gun laws and want them strengthened.
This is up from 25% who held this set of views a year ago, and is the
highest since 2001. Still, more Americans are either satisfied with

WH to target background check liars to control guns

The most contentious initiatives, like reviving a ban on assault
weapons, would require Congressional approval and have drawn fierce
opposition from gun rights groups and Republican lawmakers, making
passage a long shot.

In the face of those difficulties, the White House has said it is
looking for actions it can take without Congressional approval.
Increasing the number of prosecutions for lying on background-check
forms is an effort that the administration can undertake largely on
its own, in part by pressing federal prosecutors to pursue such cases.
It is also one measure that both sides of the gun-control debate have
agreed upon.

source. One suspect was taken into custody, the source said.

UK to help France battle al Qaeda until Brit Plane breaks down on runway

Two C17 transport planes have been deployed to support French efforts
in the west African country while British drones and spy planes are
said to be on standby to help tackle what the Prime Minister described
as a "dangerous Islamist regime".

But British efforts fell at the first hurdle as the first plane was
grounded just moments after David Cameron discussed the action in an
interview on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
